Babyccino Kids turned me on to this beautiful kids craft blog operated by artist and father Joel Henriques – from Portland, OR! Yay, hometown! Below, find samples of his work:

the survivors club by ben sherwood

Ben Sherwood, NYT best-selling author of The Survivors Club: The Secrets and Science That Could Save Your Life, spoke at a conference I attended yesterday. (He also wrote the novel Charlie St. Cloud – which was made into a movie starring Zac Efron and is currently in theaters.) He delivered an uplifting speech, filled with anecdotes about individuals who have overcome unfathomable adversity, such as the woman who tripped and fell onto her knitting bag, resulting in a knitting needle piercing her sternum and heart. She was successfully operated on, but while reviewing her x-rays the doctors found early signs of breast cancer. Now in remission, she credits the knitting needle incident with saving her life.

Although it debuted in February 2009, I hadn’t heard of it before (clearly, not much time has been devoted to literary pursuits as of late!), and I’m looking forward to reading about more amazing stories. (A fun p.s.: a couple of weeks ago President Obama was pictured with the very same book in his hand – the author quipped, “I’m not sure if we should be worried about that or not!”)

wax paper chandelier

Check out this amazing DIY chandelier made out of wax paper from Brenna at Design*Sponge:

We bought this one at CostPlus last year:

Frankly, I’m sure it was more efficient for us to buy it vs. attempting Design*Sponge’s make your own version (crafting does not come naturally), but it’s still neat!
